Just bought a new Dell laptop the other day and set it all up. Unfortunately, it's Windows 10. Not really liking it so far. The computer is pretty sluggish and I wouldn't be surprised if it was from having 10 on it. I recall when Windows was making everyone update their computer to Windows 10 a while ago. It did on my boyfriend's laptop. It took ages to do this big update and when it was done, the whole computer basically couldn't move. Changed it back as soon as he could.

Another slap in the face from Windows is that it discontinued Movie Maker (which is how I make my youtube videos). I tried downloading some of the free movie maker apps from the store, but they are like a minefield of advertisements! Not sure what I'm going to do now for videos. Maybe I'll have to take files from this computer, go to my old computer to use WMM then upload. That's a lot of faffing about I shouldn't have to do.

Thanks, Windows 10. Thanks a lot....

Huh, lag?  That's weird...I could see the updates taking forever, but you might try looking in the Task Manager (hit Ctrl+Shift+Esc) and see what programs are taking up all the space/running in the background/on the CPU.  (Hit 'More Details' and then 'Details', or 'Performance', but that won't give you a list of anything).  It won't solve your problems, but it'll give you an idea of what's making the computer lag.  Excluding hardware limitations like memory or processor (anything under 2 GHz processor speed is pretty much going to suck no matter what you do, regardless of which Windows you have...trust me), the most I've seen of Windows 10 is that the operating system has some glitches/errors under stress--maybe caused by lag, but not the actual cause of the lag.  And...the occasional random restart.  Haven't quite figured that one out yet.

You can also kill some of the startup lag by going into Settings and changing what programs are automatically booted up when you turn the computer on. Apparently, the default is 'pretty much everything on the computer', so that could make a difference, too.  There's also a way to prevent stuff from running in the background as well, which I really wish was defaulted to 'nothing' but is, once more, 'mostly everything on the computer'.  If you turn these off, the programs might take a little longer to load when you open them, but it's worth the time in the end.  Just make sure you don't turn off any system processes or anything. o.o

I will say that upgrading a computer to Windows 10 is a big no in most cases unless you're absolutely certain about the hardware.  It's better that you bought one instead of upgraded; there's so many hardware incompatibilities that not everything on the computer is guaranteed to work right after installing 10, and some parts may be corrupted if you try to restore it.  My mom had an Asus laptop she took to 10 from 8, but because the company didn't convert all the hardware on the computer, she only got the updates for Microsoft...so the DVD drive and a few other hardware pieces couldn't be used by the computer because they weren't built with the software, and Asus apparently never bothered updating it.

...Oops, I went on for a while.  I love computers too much.  Maybe something in there will work; I have an Acer computer with 10 on... (I miss my old Windows 7, but six years of overkill memory usage destroyed the CPU.) :(
(Also make sure that the computer isn't overheating; that makes it lag and lock up and have SO many errors, and was ultimately the greatest catalyst in the death of that Windows 7 computer...)
